In the development process our quilt designer knew that she wanted to put pink in the quilt, and it had to go with the blue butterfly fabric she already had. So what should she make?
In her travels she found some black and gray butterfly fabric. That would work with the blue butterflies. Georgia found some pink fabric that she thought would work well and purchased it. However, she later found something even better, fabric that had the same pattern as the black and gray butterflies, but all in pink! Substitution made.
It was decided that there should be an appliqued large central butterfly to coordinate with the smaller pink butterflies. But what should the butterfly be resting on? Perhaps some black fabric. Fabric found and purchased.
But wait! After exploring more fabric shops while traveling Georgia found a fabric with gray flowers on a black background. Perfect!
Now, what should the large pink butterfly in the center be made of? The pink fabric she had previously discarded would work. Time passed, and our designer decided that fabric really did not go well with the rest of the quilt. New pink fabric found and purchased.
Georgia needed to finish the design for the large pink butterfly after traveling to Yuma. She sketched it out. The butterfly was cut out and sewn together. Finally the blocks of butterfly fabric were sewn together.
Georgia enhanced the photos to show approximately what the quilt will look like when finished.
