No Es Mesa

Our preparation work for the house continued Monday with Georgia signing the home insurance papers since Randy rode his bike to work. That is now out of the way. Randy purchased the electrical circuit testers and screws for the shelving at the Lowes near his work. We did not see any work done at the house.

On Tuesday we found that the roof had been completed. The two areas that had been sitting for 2 weeks were finally done. We also met with the landscaper on Tuesday to go over his plans for the house. We had to revise it as expected. The builder’s superintendent came by and told the landscaper that he wanted it done by September 20.

On Wednesday some light fixtures were installed which included our Italian glass chandelier that we bought at a second hand store in Bern, Switzerland. It hangs above the tile medallion at the front door. The compressor for the air conditioner also was installed which is a sure sign that the building will be occupied soon.

Thursday brought the mother lode as carpeting, countertops, and more interior and all exterior lights were added. The countertop installer had left hand printed messages in both English and Spanish. The one in English said “This is not a workbench” the one in Spanish said “No es Mesa” (This is not a table). He definitely did not want his work to be damaged by others. The bathroom countertops were also in place.

The garage door and front pillars need to be painted. Other jobs to be completed are: additional interior lighting fixtures, finish the kitchen back splash tile work, other finish tile work, finish plumbing (faucets), and landscaping. We also have a short punch list of items that we consider to be defects: garage floor cracks, laundry room door finish, rough finish under the kitchen island counter top, and grouting problems.

Our builder is “Pulling out all the stops” to get the house completed for closing by September 27, 2010. This also means all of the inspections must also be done by then. They just could not get it all done by Georgia’s birthday on the September 22. Georgia said that “I will accept a delayed birthday present”. Randy and the builders are grateful about that.
