House Work

Work on our house continued this week after the Labor Day holiday. On Tuesday, the master bathroom’s bathtub arrived along with the two sinks. The garage door and opener were installed along with the water heater in the garage. The garage door‘s final color will not be white as it will be painted to match the color of the house.

On Wednesday we were surprised to see the house had received its final colored coat of stucco and the side gate had been installed. The bathroom sinks, the bathtub, shower head and controls had been installed in the master bath. The secondary bathrooms had toilets installed, bathtub and shower hooked up. The sinks in the secondary bathrooms remain uninstalled.

The electrician came and installed the switches, outlets, cover plates, and recessed lights. The rest of the light fixtures will probably be next. Also, all interior door handles have been installed.

A single french door (with a window) was originally installed in the back of the house. Later on it was replaced with a solid door. On Friday it was changed back out to being the glass door again. Hopefully this will be the last exchange.

The cabinet for the kitchen sink has not come yet. It might have been damaged in the original shipping or was never ordered. We have never seen it and our anxiously waiting for it so that the kitchen counter tops can be installed. We talked with the sales agent who found out it had been shipped on Wednesday. So it and the properly sized over john cabinet should be here next week. The originally-received over-sized over john cabinet has been installed in the laundry room where its size is not a problem.

Our punch list for the next two weeks includes the following interior items: kitchen, lighting fixtures, carpeting, and bathroom sinks. The exterior includes: painting the garage door and front pillars, roof completion, lighting, and landscaping.

We are scheduling the appliance deliveries, furniture deliveries and the movers. Randy also took care of the home insurance this week.

On a side note: Randy noticed a pair of burrowing owls not too far from our future home. He hopes to enjoy watching them just as he does the road runner that inhabits the hospital apartment grounds. He does not worry too much about the pigeons and doves that are plentiful in the area. It has been dove season here the last week or so and the shotguns have been blazing. Hopefully a few pigeons were “harvested” too.

Speaking of harvesting, the mysterious agricultural plants (to us anyway) have been identified – cotton. It is being harvested this week as the cotton bolls have opened.
