When we last heard about Georgia’s move, she had a broken garage door and movers coming earlier than she expected.
Wednesday morning Georgia finished her personal packing. The packers arrived and started to work. Soon one of the garage door repair places arrived. She thanked them for coming, and set them to work. Even though she was having a stressful week, Georgia did remember to call the other two garage door places to cancel the request for their services. It didn’t take long to get the door working correctly.
The packers quit work early that day thinking that they would have two easy days of packing rather than one long and one short day. Their plan didn’t work out. Georgia received a call later that day asking if she would rather have the guys come finish the packing that same day and give her a day “off”. She later found out it was because the Grants Pass moving company needed more of their workers at a different site on Thursday. Oblivious of that, Georgia elected to leave the packing as originally set up.
That evening, while reclining in an easy chair, Georgia accidently knocked over two of the packed boxes. It sounded like the contents were being thrown around inside. While the contents were board games and other stuff from a hall closet and a bit more sturdy, those sounds were just NOT appropriate. She identified other boxes packed by the same person whom we shall call “Junior”. Jostling those additional boxes produced noises that, while not as loud, were still inappropriate coming from a well packed box.
Our experienced moving customer got to work. She had a plan. That night she sent an email to her contact at the moving company. The next morning, after orienting the day’s one-man crew to the packing, she opened and showed him the two boxes she had knocked over. The packer shook his head in amazement. She opened the other boxes that Junior had packed. More head shaking.
Georgia received a follow up call from her contact at the moving company. After reviewing the situation again, Georgia expressed her concern that time it would take to repack the boxes would not cost extra. The moving company contact assured her that all would be well. At the advice of Thursday’s packer Georgia also placed a call to the office manager at the Grants Pass branch of the moving company. She explained the problem with Junior’s packing, and got an assurance that it would be fixed.
The boss of the Grants Pass moving company stopped by on Thursday afternoon. Georgia showed him Junior’s boxes that needed to be repacked. More head shaking. He sent Georgia’s one-man packing team elsewhere early that afternoon. Georgia was relieved when, an hour or two later, she got a call to say that two people would be there in a little while to continue the packing. More packing got done Thursday afternoon, but the day ended without a single room being finished.
Don’t forget that the papers for the house still needed to be signed. Stay tuned for part three.
