Jar Heads

Randy often browses the magazine section of the home improvement warehouse near his work. A while ago he found a magazine that had a pattern in it that he liked. We mentioned it in a previous posting.

As we were talking with some "junior" Marines one Monday evening, we mentioned what Randy had been working on. Some one of us came up with the idea of Marine heads in a jar. We thought that it was a hilarious idea. We knew just the person to give it to as well.

A bit of time passed while Randy cut out the necessary pieces, sanded them, and glued them. The hats for the wooden Jar Heads were ready for paint. Georgia was assigned that job. Each of the hats received two coats of paint.

Randy glued the "lids" on the Jar Heads as his final contribution to the project. Georgia decided they would look best if they had faces, and used paint pens to create them.

Over the long Christmas weekend we had a young Marine from church staying with us as she would not be going home to visit family. She was given the assignment of "canning" the Jar Heads. Using left over quilt batt, she carefully put the heads into the jar.

Georgia thought that the "canning" project should have a label like any other canning product does. Between the two they came up with an appropriate label, and it was attached.

On Christmas Day the three of us went over to the house a member to gift the present. He recently retired from the Marine Corps, and seemed like an excellent prospect for a recipient.

After examining the gift and realizing what it was, he put it in with his other mementos of the Marine Corps.
