The proprietors of the Olson Gazette, you know them as Randy and Georgia, are very “crafty” people. Georgia her fabric arts: sewing, crocheting, quilting, and weaving; and Randy with his woodworking of box making, fret work, etc.
Randy saw a tag line from a fellow woodworker that read “Always one power tool away from greatness.” We amended it to include other items. Our version now reads:
Always one power tool, one technique, one project, and time away from greatness.
As far as power tools go, new ones keep coming out every year for woodworking. Some are totally different products others are merely the “New and Improved” products that have been around for years.
There was a box on the front step that arrived by UPS is this week. Georgia ordered some small handheld weaving looms called “Weavetts” while they could still be found. They make small squares and she has made and given away a baby quilt made from them. Randy is still getting used to his new band saw and seeing what it can do.
There are many different techniques that can be learned for both fabric arts and woodworking. We do not have time to learn them all, but it sure is fun trying. Georgia has been making fabric flowers. Randy is still making boxes. He is finishing up doing band saw boxes for the moment and hopes to be making some more traditional ones shortly.
We both have projects that are trying all the new techniques and tools on. Randy’s boxes are all different. Georgia’s flowers are destined for a quilt that she is working on.
Ah…So many projects. So little time.
