Biking Hot

Summer has come to Yuma with temperatures close to or over 100 degrees when Randy’s work day comes to a close. Randy has not been riding for a couple of weeks because of illness – flu then a sinus infection. He has been thinking about riding in the hot summer weather – again. The really hot weather starts in July.

Last year, Georgia was picking him up after work on really hot days where the temperatures were above 110 degrees. She brought the truck and the bike would go into the protected bed with the shell on it. It was also totally enclosed and hot inside. How hot was it – the rear bike tire exploded from the heat.

This year, Randy will try just riding in the mornings on the really hot days around the local area and then drive to work. Fortunately it gets light early around here, at about 5:30AM - one of the benefits of not being on Daylight Savings time.
