A family in our neighborhood that we know from church recently had a baby. Georgia had some yarn left over from a different project, and decided to make them a baby afghan, which would be about 45 inches square.. We point out the fact that Georgia does not like the traditional crochet instructions in English. When we lived in Switzerland she ran across a different style of giving stitch instructions - in picture form. Since then she has tried to only purchase chrochet references that have this style of instructions, or are at least bilingual between the two styles.
Georgia decided that the afghan should be about 45 inches square. She used a larger hook than the yarn called for, but the pattern looked just fine.
The stitch she used for the afghan itself is called "Aligned Cobble Stitch", and used just two types of stitches - single crochet, and treble crochet (the first set of instructions).
The afghan also needed a border, so Georgia used a single row of shell stitch, and modified it slightly.
When the afghan was finished Georgia took it to the family with the new baby. They were very pleased to receive it.

You two are incredible! Your blog inspires me to be better person and to reach out to people more! I love you so much! -Shannon :)
