Let's go to the Movies!

Last summer was quite a bit different than this summer. Last summer saw Georgia finish moving the family from Oregon into the temporary apartment.
We anxiously looked forward to the time when our new house would be completed. As we planned the different rooms we went to sales to purchase items for the house as well. Randy was working hard at his job, and enjoyed riding his bicycle in the sunny weather, and we were happy to be back together at last.

This summer we enjoy our house every day. All the rooms are finished. Randy is still working hard at his job, and has switched his summer bicycle rides to the cooler morning hours. And we are still happy to be together.

Last summer we did not go to a single movie. Between the busy-ness of the summer, and a lack of movies we were really interested in, not a single theater got our business last summer.

This summer is different. A grand total of SEVEN movies will have tempted us from our abode this summer. It seems unprecedented in our family. Seven in one summer!

Since we are so picky about which movies we watch, you may be interested in which ones we picked. Let the story begin.

Growing up we both read comic books from time to time. Thor was one of the comic books we read, sometimes sneaking a peek while we accompanied our parents to the grocery store.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides, of course, all started from the ride at Disneyland. We went to the first Pirates movie because of the tie-in, and have watched the others since we have found them amusing.
The Green Lantern did not receive much eyeball time when we were growing up for whatever reason. We did enjoy the movie as he was portrayed well as a hero.
As the original Cars movie amused us with its “tractor tipping” and other twists on real life, we decided to take in the second move as well.

We read all of the Harry Potter books as they were published, and watched all of the other movies, so we could not miss the final installment in the story of the young wizard. The ending was very appropriate.

Captain America was another comic book that we each read when we could. We liked that he always fought for the right.

The final movie we plan to see for the summer is Cowboys & Aliens. When Georgia saw the trailer for the first time she decided she just had to see it. What an interesting mix of Westerns and “Space Westerns” (a.k.a. science fiction).

Once we have seen the seventh movie of the summer we will not be frequenting the movie theater for a while. There have been times when we have gone a long time between movies because nothing has peaked our (joint) fancy. But all is not lost – November promises two movies. The first one is about the sometimes brash and sometimes manipulative Puss in Boots from Shrek. The second movie features all of the wild and/or strange characters of the Muppets.
